Frequently Asked Questions
What are the payment options? Can I afford Project Turnabout?
As a nonprofit organization Project Turnabout exists solely to provide help to people. We will work with anyone in need to try to find options to make care available to them. Our
rates are substantially lower than most residential treatment programs of comparable quality which helps those who can pay privately. We also have contracts with a number of health insurance companies and contracts with local counties. If you need help, call 1-800-862-1453. We will talk with you about various financing options.
What’s involved in the treatment programs?
We believe individuals who come to us for help need a supportive and healthy environment and the right information to make changes in their lives. Patients are welcomed and always treated with the utmost respect.
New participants start with an individual assessment process in which a staff team works with the patient to identify initial areas of need. This would include a health evaluation and discussing social, educational, and emotional issues. A patient’s individual treatment plan guides their progress, and a daily living routine establishes consistency. Patients participate in group meetings, lectures and learning programs, and individual and group therapy, all as a means to learn about their addiction, their lives, and to plan for their future. Planned recreation, comfortable surroundings and nutritional meals all contribute to regaining health and confidence.
Families are encouraged to participate in available family services and all patients and families are treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Our evaluation process at the end of treatment indicates over 90% of our patients are “very satisfied” with the services they received from us and we strive to insure excellence of care and positive outcomes for everyone.
What should I bring to treatment?
You should bring several, comfortable, seasonal changes of clothing, including exercise clothes, tennis shoes and a swim suit, as well as personal hygiene articles and any prescription medication you take. Free laundry facilities are available on site.
How do I get to Project Turnabout?
Project Turnabout is about a two hour drive from the twin cities of Minneapolis/St Paul. We can coordinate transportation from the twin cities airport as well as the airport in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
What if I have special needs?
Special arrangements, such as dietary, or handicap accessibility can be handled through the intake office prior to admission.
When can we have visitors?
Sunday is visiting day and the hours are as follows: 1-3 pm for the
Women's Unit, 2-4 pm for both Men's Units, and 1-4 pm for those in the Vanguard gambling program.
Is my family involved with treatment?
Family members are encouraged to participate in a weekly, full day family education group experience. Schedules vary and program options will be discussed with family members when a patient is admitted to treatment.
Do you have a physical exercise program?
Exercise is an important component of healthy living and an enjoyable way to reduce stress. Our facility features a well equipped exercise room and a gymnasium for group activities. Swimming is scheduled one evening per week at the local community health center. Our on-site personal fitness trainer develops exercise plans for each resident and helps monitor progress throughout a resident's stay. We also address nutritional needs for maintaining good health.
How long is treatment and what happens after the initial treatment?
Primary treatment at Project Turnabout, whether inpatient or outpatient, is the first step on the path to recovery. It is an individualized process and the length of time involved is determined by the personal needs and situation of the patient.
On average, primary chemical dependency treatment patients stay approximately one month. From that point, some patients will continue in an extended or transitional program while others will move on to outpatient or other forms of care. Each person’s plan will reflect their unique needs. Project Turnabout provides several levels of care and works with patients and other outside agencies to help establish a base of support appropriate to each patient including links into the self-help community.
Patients in the
Vanguard Compulsive Gambling Program also stay approximately a month.
